Joshua 3:5
Joshua told the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do amazing things among you.”
To consecrate is to set ourselves apart for God’s purposes, it involves a wholehearted devotion and surrender. When we choose consecration, “amazing” is on the horizon. The Lenten season is a 6-week time of preparation centered around spiritual renewal. It’s a time to examine the condition and direction of the heart. It’s a time to be in touch with our deeper longings. It’s a time to offer ourselves wholly and fully to the Lord. It’s a “consecrate yourselves” season. What are some purposeful yes’s we can make during these 40 days? What helps us stay connected to God and centered on what He’s doing in our lives? What about some purposeful no’s? (fasting) What’s something I can fast from that would help me stay dialed in spiritually? What are those things that distract me and pull me away from the person I know God is calling me to be? Technology, social media, food, over-functioning at work, over-functioning at home. Each of us want to see God do some amazing things, Lent reminds us that we have a part.
Father, search my heart. I know I drift away and get distracted. Capture my heart once again on the things that matter the most. Stir up a holy longing for what’s on Your heart. Teach me to be a person of prayer. I choose surrender today. I choose to give my full attention to You. Open my eyes to see how You’re at work in me and all around me this day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
