Last week, I learned about something called a “Super Bloom” that’s happening in southern California from a post by Global Partners. In this post, Dennis Jackson, the Executive Director of Global Partners shared a picture of what he believes God is doing in the world. I believe this is also something that is true of what God wants to do and is already doing here at Eagle Church.
The super bloom is a phenomenon where a geographical region suffers from extreme drought, and at face value, it looks like nothing is happening. In reality, there are countless seeds that lay dormant waiting for water to bring them to life.
In southern California, there was a major drought for several years, but over the last year, they have had incredible rains to the point of flooding! Now what is happening is that these dormant seeds have been infused with life-giving water, and they’re blossoming into a breathtaking display of creation. It was so dramatic that it could be seen in photographs from space!
As I learned about this phenomenon and thought about it in the spiritual sense, Romans 4 came to mind. Paul is writing about Abraham’s faith, and he says in verse 17 that Abraham believed God to be the one “who gives life to things that are dead and calls things that are not as though they were.”
I have been praying for God to do something incredible, something beyond us, something we could never have dreamed up, in and through Eagle Church and through his Church at large. I believe that there is a Spiritual Super Bloom that is on the horizon for us. I believe that God has called things that are currently not reality as though they are reality. He has already claimed territory in advance for us, but we must take steps of faith and obedience to go where he leads and say yes to his invitations.
This sounds a whole lot like what I preached about a few weeks ago, but it’s something I’ve had a hard time letting go of!
So, what step is God asking you to take? Have you taken it? If not, what’s holding you back?
May we become people of faith who walk in obedience knowing that we follow the God who gives life to things that are dead and calls things that are not as though they are. I believe the super bloom is coming. Will you pray for it with me?
