Psalm 63:3-6
3 Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you. 4 So I will bless you as long as I live; in your name I will lift up my hands. 5 My soul will be satisfied as with fat and rich food, and my mouth will praise you with joyful lips, 6 when I remember you upon my bed, and meditate on you in the watches of the night.
My family is comprised of self-proclaimed foodies. And I think we live up to the label. Every time my parents come to Indianapolis, we choose a different restaurant. We only choose establishments from Top 10 Lists. It’s not like we’re going to waste our time on lesser food… anyways… Food has helped my worship life expand. I know it sounds weird, but it’s true. There are VERY few things I like more than a good meal. I love excellent culinary dining experiences. And since that’s the case, David’s simile, comparing satisfaction in God to satisfaction with food, totally resonates. I get what he’s saying. I’ve had those moments where I’m so overwhelmed by God… His goodness, His provision, and his blessings. God is better than life, He’s better than food, and He is completely worthy of all of our praise, morning, noon, and night. As we pursue God together during this time of Lent, let’s praise Him with our lips, our minds, our bodies, and our every affection. He is worthy of it all.
Lord God, your love is better than life. I praise You in this moment with all of who I am. As I go about my day, remind me of the many ways that You have blessed me. And when I go to bed tonight, prompt in me a prayer of gratitude for another day lived under the umbrella of Your love. Thank you, Jesus.
