As a little girl, I would always get excited when I saw the big white church bus go by. I thought it looked so fun! My parents didn‘t go to church at that time, so my brother and I asked if we could ride the bus to church so we could go. When they said yes, it felt like all my dreams had come true! My brother and I continued to go to church each week, and eventually my parents started attending with us. What I didn’t know back then was God had put that big white church bus in my life for a reason; it was the beginning of my faith journey. A few years later, at the age of seven, I decided to follow Jesus. I knew God loved me and I wanted to, one day, go to heaven to be with Him.
This is only a small part of my journey of course, but it began when I was a child. A child who was excited, curious, and ready to learn and that is one of the many reasons I am passionate about teaching the love of God to our children. What they are experiencing right now, might just be the beginning of their faith journey.
We get to hear stories all the time about the difference we are making in the lives of our kids, but I know not everyone gets to hear them. I want to share some of those stories with you so you also have a glimpse into what God is doing in Eagle Kids.
Recently we had a five-year-old who gave his life to Christ! He was at home when he had a conversation with his mom. Of course, it wasn’t planned and his dad was out of town, but he was ready to make the decision. One Sunday morning his mom told me to ask him what had happened over the weekend and he very sweetly, but boldly, said, “I asked Jesus in to my heart”. I told him that I was so excited for him and gave him a huge hug. A couple weeks later, I was honored to bless him with his first Bible. He was truly excited to receive it, and has since seen me in the hallway and told me he brought his new Bible with him! Every week he’s learning the lessons, memorizing scripture, worshipping in song, and recently participated in his first communion. My hope and prayer is that his experiences here are just the beginning of his faith journey. I can’t wait to see what God does in and with this little boys’ precious life!
A parent recently shared how they have caught their kids acting out the lesson they learned at church. One four-year-old boy has been memorizing scripture and then reciting it at preschool for his teachers. That child now has one of God’s promises memorized that he could reference later in life as he’s making decisions. Others share that their kids are singing worship songs in the car and around the house. I have gotten several emails asking what the name of the songs are because their kids want to listen to them at home! Something like singing a worship song in the car might seem small, but the songs that we sing are filled with God’s truths; they are planting seeds in the lives of our children. If we are consistent about what we are putting in front of our children, the better chance we have of the truth being deeply rooted within their souls.
These stories are just a small sample of what we hear every week. If you want to be involved with all that is happening in Eagle Kids, we have several opportunities available. Come, join us and help make an eternal difference in the life of a child!
Take Away Tip
- Each week in Eagle Kids we send home a Tracker or Tracker Jr. This take-home paper is a way for parents, grandparents, or friends to review the lesson that was taught on Sunday. There are fun games to play and review questions about the lesson they learned. The more we put the truth in front of them, the more they will know it!
