“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” – Hebrews 13:8
I find myself drawn to what hasn’t changed as I scroll the election headlines and listen to the stream of analysis.
- Yahweh Malak (the Lord reigns) = God sits enthroned above any wave of political change in any nation. (Psalm 93)
- Sovereign Lord = He is not surprised or caught-off-guard. He is not wringing His hands about what to do next. (1 Chronicles 29:10-11)
- King of kings = The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord and He directs it like a watercourse wherever He pleases. (Proverbs 21:1)
- Lord Most High = God’s kingdom is flourishing quite well today. His purposes are moving forward. The range of His effective will is not limited by the institutions of man. (Matthew 11:12)
- Jehovah-rophe (the Lord our healer) = The dividing wall of hostility crumbles through Christ and Christ alone. (Ephesians 2:14)
We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. (Hebrews 6:19)
Is that guiding my response today?
Is that the filter through which I’m processing all that I’m hearing/seeing/experiencing?
Is that directing my praying?
Is that deepening my roots of trust in the Lord (which loosens the grip of worry)?
Let’s be a people whose lives are marked with a steadfast trust in the One who never changes. Living everyday life with Jesus makes a difference…every day…even today.
